Financial Aid

Eligibility Statement
Mount Union Scholarship and Grant eligibility is determined upon acceptance to the University and completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The following information describes eligibility criteria for the various federal, state and institutional funds that are available through Mount Union.

Multiple Grants and Scholarships Policy
The initial institutional merit-based award is offered without regard for financial need. Students who may be eligible for multiple institutional grants and/or scholarships will receive at least the value of the highest grant or scholarship.

It is our policy not to "stack" multiple institutional awards on the basis of merit. Consideration that is given for any portion of a second grant/scholarship or award made up from Mount Union dollars will be based on financial need and will require that the student file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Financial Aid Process for new students

  1. Complete an application for admission to Mount Union. Mount Union's priority deadline is March 1.
  2. Complete the 2013-2014 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA can be obtained from your guidance counselor or you can file online. You can file this form as early as January 1, 2013 to determine your eligibility for financial aid. We encourage you to apply for financial aid through the Internet.

You and your parent will need to obtain a PIN number at www.pin.ed.gov. With your PIN numbers, you and your parent can electronically sign your online FAFSA, making the application process simpler and faster. The PIN will be emailed to you within 24 hours.

Gather your and your parent's W-2's and 2012 Federal tax returns. You will need them to complete the FAFSA.

Complete the online FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Remember to electronically sign the FAFSA. A Student Aid Report (SAR) will be electronically sent to you, providing you submit your email address. Otherwise, a paper SAR will be mailed to the address listed on your FAFSA. The SAR gives you and your parent the opportunity to confirm the information you submit is correct. In order for Mount Union to receive your FAFSA results, list our Federal Code (003083).

If you need to make corrections to your SAR, you can make corrections at www.fafsa.gov. You will need both PIN numbers to electronically sign your SAR.

  3. Mount Union will send a financial aid award to you AFTER you have been accepted for admission to the University and after Mount Union has received the results of the FAFSA. The awarding process starts mid March and continues throughout the academic year.
  4. After you receive your financial aid award from Mount Union, you will be contacted by a member of the University's admissions staff, who will answer any questions you or your parents may have. Receiving information on your college financial aid status is an important step. We want to be sure you are fully informed.
  5. Once you have decided to enroll at Mount Union, you should forward the $150 deposit (if you have not already done so) to the Office of Admissions. Should your plans change, this deposit is fully refundable until May 1, 2013.
  6. Get Ready for Preview! Students who have paid their deposit will eventually receive information on Preview, our orientation program for new students and their parents. During Preview, students and their parents have the opportunity to spend two days visiting campus, along with one night in a College residence hall. A variety of informational and social activities are scheduled to introduce the visitors to collegiate and academic life on Mount Union's campus.  Watch your email for information.
