Fireside Chat Features Mal Mixon of Invacare

This semester’s Fireside Chat brought Mal Mixon, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Invacare Corporation, to Mount Union’s campus. The Fireside Chat brings an influential speaker to campus each semester to share their expertise with Mount Union Presidential Scholars and other students.
Mixon has led the company since 1979 when he and a group of Cleveland based investors bought Invacare from then parent Johnson & Johnson. He serves on the boards of several Cleveland area corporations and civic organizations, including chairmanship of the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic. Mixon is highly regarded in the Cleveland business community and has been recognized nationally for his entrepreneurial skill and leadership. He received his education, BA and MBA from Harvard, and served four years in the Marine Corps prior to launching his business career with Invacare Corporation.
Today, Invacare is the global leader in the $8-billion home medical product industry. The company sells its products to over 25,000 home health care and medical equipment providers, distributors, and government locations in the United States, Australia, Canada, Europe, New Zealand, and Asia. The product line has expanded dramatically to include all types of equipment and supplies used for home health care. Invacare is the leading company in each of the following major, non-acute, medical equipment categories: power and manual wheelchairs, home care bed systems, and home oxygen systems. The company has 5,700 associates and markets its products in 80 countries around the world.
