While taking Elementary Chinese, I had the opportunity to practice traditional Chinese calligraphy. This was my absolute favorite part of class because it shows that there is not only a difference in the way words are written (characters versus letters), but also a difference in the method of how the language is written. Calligraphy is a traditional part of Chinese history and culture, and being able to practice it myself made me respect that aspect of the Chinese culture even more. It is no easy feat to write using a calligraphy brush!
First Year Experience

The First Year Experience (FYE) at Mount Union is an exciting, innovative program for first-year students interested in exploring the connections between learning and living - between what happens inside the classroom and the world that exists outside.
Starting with the Fall of 2012 school year, every incoming first year student will be included in the FYE program.
The FYE is a college-wide initiative that offers a variety of programs and services designed for first-year students, including:
- Academic support services
- Opportunities for faculty interaction outside of the classroom
- Involvement with the college community
The first year of college is a pivotal year. We are excited to offer this array of programs and services to promote the success of our first-year students.
