Former Professor of English Earl Russell Passed Away September 4

A former professor of English at Mount Union College, Earl Russell, passed away September 4 in Oberlin, Ohio.
Russell was a member of the English department faculty at Mount Union from September 1, 1959 through June 30, 1984. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Reserve University and his Master of Arts degree from Columbia University. He received his Ph.D. from Western Reserve University.
At Mount Union, Russell headed the convocation committee for nine years and was chairman of the College's Bicentennial committee. He also served on the archives and heritage committee. In 1976, he was the president of the Northeast Ohio College English Group.
He was particularly interested in early and renaissance music and was a renowned builder of harpsichords. He built 64 of the instruments over a 50-year period.
