Gardner to Discuss Transition to University

Melissa Gardner, executive director of marketing for the University of Mount Union will present “Transition to University: Strategic Marketing and Beyond” at the Chamber of Commerce Lunch Seminar on Tuesday, March 1 at the Rodman Public Library. The lunch seminar will begin at 11:45 a.m. and conclude by 1 p.m.
Gardner will discuss how the University of Mount Union utilized market research and a new branding initiative in the University’s campaign to communicate and advertise the transition from Mount Union College to University of Mount Union.
She joined the staff at Mount Union in 1998 as assistant director and in 2002 she was promoted to director. Since then she has been responsible for the development of the institution’s publications as well as overseeing the media relations and electronic communications components of the office. She was instrumental in the creation of Mount Union’s Identity Program and has been responsible for its implementation and the establishment of trademarking and licensing initiatives.
In her role as executive director, Gardner is responsible for developing marketing, public relations, advertising, electronic communication and media relations strategies and oversees the implementation of those strategies. She also continues to cultivate relationships with media representatives, develop publications and provide assistance in communicating messages, both verbally and in written form.
A native of Minerva, Ohio, she graduated magna cum laude from Mount Union in 1998, earning a bachelor of arts degree in mass media. In 2002, she earned a master of arts degree in journalism and mass communication from Kent State University.
Gardner is a member of the Arts in Stark: 20/20 Vision Alliance Community Task Force, Canton Ad Federation, Council for Advancement and Support of Education and the College and University Designer’s Association. She also serves as a choreographer for the Carnation City Players. She has served as a member of the Beta Psi Beta Alumni Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega National Sorority, the Alliance Area United Way 50th Anniversary Committee and the Alliance Community Hospital Women’s Wellness Retreat Committee.
