Gospel Music Workshop to be Held at Mount Union March 25-27
May 24, 2010
A Gospel Music Workshop facilitated by Rev. Ken Anderson from San Diego, CA will be held Thursday, March 25 – Saturday, March 27 at Dewald Chapel on Mount Union’s campus.
Presented by the Inspirational Voices of Praise (IVOP) of Mount Union College, the workshop will allow time to share musical literature and extend an opportunity to congregations that wish to add a diversity component to their music program(s).
The workshop will be held on Thursday, March 25 from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, March 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, March 27 from 9 a.m. to noon.
Rev. Anderson will be teaching music from the gospel, as well as sacred and spiritual genres. Choir director, music teacher, accomplished tenor soloist and church pastor, Anderson has been the director of the gospel choir at the University of California – San Diego (UCSD) for more than 20 years. At the beginning of his first year teaching at UCSD, there were 370 students in the choir and by the end of his fourth year, 1,627 students were registered for two of his classes, nearly one-tenth of the university population.
“We invite you to come and learn gospel music, sacred songs, anthems and Negro spirituals from the African-American traditions,” said Barbara Lyons, director of IVOP.
The workshop is free and open to the public but RSVPs are required. To register, contact Lyons at (330) 823-2397 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
