Greek Awards Held at University of Mount Union

The 19th annual University of Mount Union Greek Awards, presented by the Order of Omega, was held on Sunday, April 1 in the Mount Union Theatre. The purpose of the Greek Awards program is to provide recognition to outstanding individuals and organizations in different areas of achievement for their accomplishments throughout the 2011-2012 academic year. The following awards were presented:
Scholastic Achievement Awards
Highest Chapter Grade Point Average — Alpha Chi Omega and Phi Kappa Tau
Highest New Members Class GPA — Alpha Chi Omega and Alpha Tau Omega
Most Improved Grade Point Average — Alpha Delta Pi and Alpha Tau Omega
Chapter of Excellence Awards
The Chapter of Excellence Awards represent eight separate areas of assessment. The overall designation of Chapter of Excellence is granted to those chapters submitting an award application in all eight areas of assessment for consideration (chapter need not be the individual award recipient). In addition, to qualify for the Chapter of Excellence designation, a fraternity or sorority must meet or exceed the qualifications required during the period of assessment for which the award is presented. The period of assessment for the Chapter of Excellence is January 1, 2011 through December 31, 2011.

Each of Mount Union's fraternity and sorority organizations recognize an individual member for his or her strong demonstration of the meaning of brotherhood or sisterhood.

the challenge. is a year-long annual event created by the Greek Programming Committee to improve Greek participation in events across campus. the challenge. Runs from one Greek Week to the next in which chapters gain points based upon attendance at specified events. One fraternity and one sorority win the challenge. and receive a trophy to be passed from winner to winner each year and $150 toward the winning chapter philanthropy.

Outstanding Faculty Member:
This award is presented to one member of the Mount Union faculty, staff or administration who exhibits outstanding and continued service to the fraternity and sorority community.

This award is presented to one advisor (faculty, chapter and/or advisory board member) who exhibits an outstanding commitment to his or her chapter and to their Greek Community as a whole.

Outstanding Governing Board Officer
This award recognizes one governing board officer from each council (Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic) for his or her leadership in working and representing their chapter on the Interfraternity or Panhellenic Council throughout the term of their office.

Carl D. Orwick Fraternal Values Award
Named for alumnus Carl D. Orwick ’42 of Alpha Tau Omega, this award is presented to one person in the Mount Union community for exceptional and outstanding demonstration of the principles and ideals of interfraternal spirit.
