Greek Community Celebrates Accomplishments of 2015

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Members and chapters of the Greek community were honored for their outstanding influence and contributions to Greek life on April 3 at the Sorority and Fraternity Life Awards at the University of Mount Union.

During this program, members involved in Mount Union Greek life came together to celebrate the accomplishments of the Greek community over the past year. During the year of 2015, the Greek community initiated 178 new members, donated over $42,783 in philanthropic endeavors, volunteered 28,297 hours of community service and maintained an all Greek GPA of 3.12. At the ceremony, embers were also recognized for their involvement in Order of Omega, Panhellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, GAMMA, Up ‘Til Dawn, Greek Member Academy and Greek Leaders Institute.

The program began by honoring the chapters for their dedication to academics. Awards and recipients included Alpha Chi Omega and Sigma Nu receiving the Most Improved Grade Point Average; Delta Sigma Tau and Phi Kappa Tau receiving the Highest New Member Grade Point Average and Delta Sigma Tau and Phi Kappa Tau receiving the Highest Chapter Grade Point Average.

Chapter excellence awards were given for chapter excellence in respected areas. Awards and recipients included Alpha Xi Delta and Phi Kappa Tau receiving the Excellence in Scholarship Programing; Alpha Xi Delta and Phi Kappa Tau receiving Excellence in Community Service; Alpha Xi Delta and Phi Kappa Tau receiving Excellence in Philanthropy; Delta Sigma Tau and Phi Kappa Tau receiving Excellence in Involvement and Leadership; Alpha Xi Delta and Sigma Nu receiving Excellence in Membership Development; Alpha Chi Omega and Sigma Alpha Epsilon receiving Excellence in New  Member Education; Alpha Xi Delta and Phi Kappa Tau receiving Excellence in Recruitment; Delta Sigma Tau and Phi Kappa Tau receiving Improvement in Risk Management and Delta Sigma Tau and Sigma Alpha Epsilon receiving Excellence in Alumni and Community Outreach. Delta Sigma Tau and Phi Kappa Tau received the overall Chapter Excellence Award.

Each chapter also presented an individual sisterhood and brotherhood award to outstanding members for their dedication and service to their chapter. Recipients included Gabriella Botzman of Alpha Chi Omega; Racheal Davis of Alpha Delta Pi; Brittany Piatt of Alpha Xi Delta; Jackie Leyva of Delta Sigma Tau; Malcolm Leake of Alpha Tau Omega; Alex McGinnis of Phi Kappa Tau; Eric Hruska of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Andrew Bertagnolli of Sigma Nu.

Other individual awards included the Emerging Leader Award presented to Morgan Cmunt of Alpha Xi Delta and Linley Mamonis of Alpha Chi Omega; advisor of the year presented to Drew Canavan, advisor of Phi Kappa Tau; Outstanding Governing Board Officers presented to Nikki Brown and Michael Gates and Outstanding Chapter President presented to Hannah Ernst of Alpha Chi Omega and Malcolm Leake of Alpha Tau Omega. The Carl D. Orwick Fraternal Values Award was presented to Gabriella Botzman of Alpha Chi Omega, Outstanding Senior Sorority Woman was presented to Jenna Miller of Alpha Xi Delta and Outstanding Senior Fraternity Man was presented to Michael Gates of Phi Kappa Tau and Malcolm Leake of Alpha Tau Omega.
