Greek Life Academy Exposes Students to Greek Life
February 21, 2012
During the weekend of Friday, February 3, nearly 100 University of Mount Union undergraduate students participated in Greek Member Academy, a program designed specifically for new members of fraternity and sorority life to learn more about Greek life.
Greek Member Academy was modeled after the Undergraduate Interfraternity Institute (UIFI), a program provided by the North-American Interfraternity Conference. The Academy is coordinated and facilitated by older student members of the eight Greek-letter organizations at Mount Union who are graduates of UIFI.
Since every student has different experiences and comes from various backgrounds, participating together allowed everyone to learn from one another. Over the weekend, newly-initiated Greek life members developed fraternal bonds, created opportunities to positively make an impact while on campus and learned how to take the initial steps to discover who they are in the Greek community. In addition, students participated in team building activities, small and large group discussion and a community service project at the Massillon Family Living Center Homeless Shelter in Massillon, Ohio.
Greek Member Academy will be held again on Friday, February 24 through Saturday, February 25 on the University of Mount Union’s campus.
