Greek Life Unites for Good of Children
April 08, 2010
Greek life came together to support children on Sunday, March 26. Alpha Xi Delta, a national sorority on campus, hosted and organized their annual powder puff football game for the sororities to participate in.
All four sororities on campus played two games. The teams were randomly selected for the first round. The losers of both games played the first game of the second round. The winners of the first game then played in the championship game.
In the first round Alpha Chi Omega beat Alpha Delta Pi 12 ' 0 and Alpha Xi Delta beat Delta Sigma Tau 28 ' 6.
In the second and final round of play Alpha Delta Pi beat Delta Sigma Tau 6 ' 0 and Alpha Chi Omega beat Alpha Xi Delta 18 ' 8.
These games, although fun as well as challenging, are meant to raise money for Alpha Xi Delta's philanthropy, 'Choose Children.' The money is raised through a raffle of many prizes donated to the group by local businesses.
The chapter then decides as a group what organization or charity the money should be donated to. 'In years past we have donated it to nearby schools, Akron Children's Hospital and the America Reads Program' said Heather Horton, a junior education major.
The chapter has not made any decisions concerning which organization the money they raised will benefit.
The powder puff football game is Alpha Xi Delta's biggest and most popular philanthropy event. According to Horton, it was a success with $800 being raised.
