MY EXCEPTIONAL STORY

A Lot Like Home
Mount Union was one of the first universities I visited and I loved everything about it! I was so excited to become part of the inaugural class of nursing students in a brand new program. I’m also from a small town and Alliance is a lot like home.

Good Vibes
I’ve made some of the best friends at Mount Union; I love the people here. Faculty members are always willing to go out of their way to help you.

Place to Clear My Head
My favorite place on campus is the track. Running is a passion of mine and it’s a place for me to go when I need to clear my head and de-stress.

In-Demand and Caring Profession
I chose to major in nursing because health care will always be a profession that’s in demand and I’ve always been interested in the medical field. I want to be someone who can provide care for people who are in need as well as someone they can trust and turn to for advice.

Becoming Independent
Living on my own and being away from home has taught me how to be independent. It is my decision to be responsible and get things done in order to succeed. I feel that this is preparing me for the real world after graduation when I won’t have someone spoon-feeding me and telling me what I need to do.

Trying On My Future
In Health Assessment and Physical Examination, we’re starting to learn hands-on assessments such as vital signs, pain and nutrition. This class gets me excited for what’s next – health assessments and injection procedures. I am really starting to get the vibe of what it feels like to be a nurse, rather than just reading in a textbook about it. It was an awesome trying on scrubs the first time – seeing myself in the mirror and visualizing my future that’s to come.

Mentor and Professor
Tim Beitzel, assistant professor of nursing, is my favorite professor at Mount Union. He is easy to talk to and turn to for help. He understands the stresses of nursing school and he tries to make it as manageable and easy for us as possible. He’s an amazing mentor because he knows firsthand the skills it takes to become a nurse and teaches us the proper techniques in order to succeed.

Broad Approach to Learning
A liberal arts foundation helps students develop a diverse knowledge that is outside of their major; a more broad approach to learning. This can help later in life with general education like writing, grammar, critical thinking and grasping ideas.

Nurse Practitioner
My ultimate career goal is to become a nurse practitioner. After I graduate I want to work as a registered nurse for a few years to get some experience and go back to school to earn a master’s degree. At the moment I am not positive on what nursing field I want to go into, but I am interested in pediatrics, emergency room or possibly becoming a military nurse.

I chose to major in nursing because health care will always be a profession that’s in demand and I’ve always been interested in the medical field. I want to be someone who can provide care for people who are in need as well as someone they can trust and turn to for advice.

To The Top!
