Health Fair to be held at Alliance Head Start on April 25
May 25, 2010
A health fair, organized by the Mount Union College Department of Human Performance and Sport Business, will be held at Alliance Head Start on Saturday, April 25 from 1-3 p.m.
The health fair is open to those families involved in Head Start, as well as to the entire community. The event will offer refreshments, a tasting of exotic fruits, free blood pressure and heart rate screenings, health information about child safety, nutrition, dental health and fitness and a variety of physical activity games. In addition, MUCaw, Mount Union’s mascot, will make an appearance at 1:30 p.m.
The Alliance Health Department, Safe Kids of Stark County, Alliance YMCA, and Unison, a local division of UnitedHealth, will be present at the health fair. Mount Union’s health education department is also receiving support from the exercise science, athletic training and sport business programs.
A HEROES grant, made possible through Youth Service America (YSA) and UnitedHealth Group, was presented to Dr. Beth Canfield-Simbro, assistant professor and director of health education by Unison Health of Ohio. HEROES grants support youth-led projects that battle childhood obesity and encourage healthy lifestyles. These funds will be used for the health fair and to purchase classroom supplies for health lessons.
The health fair is free and open to the public. Head Start is located at 321 Franklin Street in Alliance. For more information, contact Beth Canfield-Simbro at (330) 823-4667 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
