Hispanic Heritage Month Event to be Held at Mount Union September 28

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Sherrel Rieger will be speaking and the local documentary “2,000 Miles North” will be shown at Mount Union College on September 28 at 7 p.m. in Tolerton and Hood, room 101.
“2,000 Miles North,” a local documentary featuring migrant workers from Tuscarawas County will be shown at 7 p.m.
At 8 p.m. the Dover, OH native will reflect upon her experiences in Mexico and how those experiences shaped her into the person she is today.
“When I lived in Mexico, many nice people helped me make the many adjustments to living in a foreign country,” said Rieger. “When I returned to Dover, OH, I offered my bilingual skills to help the agencies in my community as we encountered a growing number of Hispanic immigrants. I have been able to pay back favors for all the help that I received in Mexico.”
For the past 20 years, Rieger has served as translator, interpreter, school liaison and advocate.
She earned a bachelor of arts degree in Spanish and a master of arts degree in romance languages and literature from the Ohio State University. Rieger also earned a bachelor of science degree in education from Kent State University. She currently is a teacher at Dover High School.
