Homecoming/Alumni Weekend will be Bringing it All Together October 17-18

Mount Union College is Bringing it all Together in 2008 with a fun-packed weekend of activities in celebration of Alumni Weekend and Homecoming on October 17-18.

The weekend kicks off on Friday, October 17 at 6:30 p.m. with a Street Fair featuring music, a magician, clown, food vendors and more outside Bracy Hall leading up to fireworks at dusk over the Campus Lakes. The Street Fair and fireworks are open to the public.

The annual Mr. MUC Competition will be held at 7 p.m. in the Mount Union Theatre.

On Saturday, the 25th Annual Run-A-MUC 5k Race and 2-Mile Fun Run/Walk will begin at 9 a.m. in front of the Timken Physical Education Building; registration begins at 7:30 a.m. For children 7 years and under, there will be a Kid’s Race following the Run-A-MUC. This race consists of one lap around the track and each participant will win a prize. Pre-registration is requested by calling the Office of Alumni and College Activities at (330) 823-2030.

The Homecoming Parade will step-off from the west parking lot of the Hoover-Price Campus Center at 10:45 a.m.

An Alumni and Community Brunch will be held in the Kresge Dining Hall of the Hoover-Price Campus Center beginning at 11 a.m. The cost is $7 for adults and $3.50 for children between the ages of 3 and 12. This brunch will end at 1:30 p.m.

From 11 a.m.-1 p.m. the 4th Annual Carnival in the Field House will feature booths of games, a bounce house and slide, cotton candy, popcorn, music and more for children of all ages. This event is free and open to the public.

In addition, at 9 p.m., comedian Alonzo Bodden will perform at the Mount Union Theatre. This event, sponsored by the Raider Programming Board, is open to alumni and the community for a cost of $5. Contact the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership at (330) 823-7288 for more information.

Other alumni events scheduled for Saturday include Camp MUCaw, which begins at 10 a.m. This day full of fun and activities for children ages 3-10 includes attending the carnival. Pick-up time is immediately following the football game. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. Call the alumni office at (330) 823-2030 to register.

At 9 a.m., Mount Union Women will meet in the West Room of the Campus Center. Alpha Xi Delta will hold an open house from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the chapter house and a postgame Black Student Union Welcome Reception will be held at the Black Cultural Center.

The Alumni Awards Luncheon will take place at 11:30 a.m. in the tented area of King Hall parking lot during which the recipients of the Dodie Davis Alumni Service, the McKinley Fellow and Young Alumni awards will be announced. The cost is $7 for adults. Pre-registration is requested by calling the alumni office at (330) 823-2030.

The Homecoming Football Game kicks off at 1:30 p.m. with the Purple Raiders taking on Heidelberg College. For football ticket information call (330) 829-8224.

The Alumni Party for all reunion years will begin at 5 p.m. at the Alliance Country Club. All alumni are welcome and reservations are encouraged by calling the alumni office at (330) 823-2030. The cost is $20 per person or $35 per couple. Reunion years celebrating special reunions include the classes of ’43, ’48, ’53, ’58, ’63, ’68, ’73, ’78, ’83, ’88, ’93, ’98 and ’03. The cost for these honorees is $10 per person or $15 per couple.
