Hot N Cole Heats Up the Stage at Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Temperatures will rise as the University of Mount Union presents a musical theatre production of “Hot – N – Cole” in the Brush Performance Hall of the new state of the art Giese Center for the Performing Arts.
The show will be performed at 7:30 p.m. March 19-21 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 22.
“Hot – N – Cole” is a two-act revue of 50 Cole Porter songs either sung partially or in their entirety. Some of Cole’s classic songs in the musical include “Anything Goes,” “I Get a Kick Out of You,” “It’s Too Darn Hot” and “Miss Otis Regrets.” The performance will include clever rhymes, unforgettable stories and remarkable dancing not previously seen on the Mount Union stage.
Performing as members of the cast are senior music major Maya Brown of Tiffin, Ohio; sophomore communication and theatre major Rachel Irwin of Mentor, Ohio; senior music and theatre major Alex Waitinas of Saratoga, California; junior music and theatre major David Lenahan of Rocky River, Ohio; sophomore music education major Jesse Reed of Diamond, Ohio and junior psychology major Jake Rogers of Waynesburg, Ohio.
Those participating in the chorus and dance ensemble are junior early childhood education and theatre major Jarred Keirn of North Canton, Ohio; senior middle childhood education and theatre major Megan Ostrofsky of North Canton, Ohio; sophomore music and theatre major Sarah Slagle of Fairview Park, Ohio and sophomore theatre major Sarah Yannie of Rocky River, Ohio.
Directing this year’s musical is Professor Kevin P. Kern. Kern earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in in drama from California Lutheran University and a Master of Fine Arts degree in acting from Brandeis University. In November of 2013, Kern directed “Oceans Apart,” a play that he wrote based on the stories of Vietnam veteran and theatre director Michael J. Arndt. He has also produced the City of Alliance’s inaugural Shakespeare At The Castle last summer at Glamorgan Castle on South Union Avenue.
Rudy Roggenkamp, professor of theatre, is set designer and Deborah Lotsof, professor of theatre, is costume designer for the show. Choreographer for the show is Mary Vaccani, lecturer of dance, and musical director is Ronald Hazelett, lecturer of voice. Ian LeRoy ’14 is assistant musical director.
