Since I was 12 years old, I have wanted to be a sports broadcaster. Within three weeks of being on campus, I was on the radio doing sideline reports for the best D3 football team in the nation.
Internships and Hands-On Learning
Students who choose to major in communication studies at the University Mount Union have ample opportunities to get involved outside of the classroom. By getting involved in these extracurricular opportunities and student organizations, you can strengthen your skills in communication and get valuable hands-on experience, both of which are critical to finding a job after graduation. All majors are encouraged to participate actively in the following activities and student organizations.
WRMU 91.1 FM is Mount Union’s student-led radio station. Located in the Hoover-Price Campus Center, the studio includes an on-air studio, three production studios, a newsroom and a student manager's office. Students have the opportunity to host their own radio show and hold leadership positions at the station.
The Dynamo is Mount Union’s student-led newspaper, and it is staffed and operated entirely by students under the supervision of a faculty advisor. Students have the opportunity to get involved by serving as a reporter, editor, designer, photographer, videographer or advertising executive.
The Calliope is Mount Union’s literary magazine. It accepts submissions for publication, poetry, prose or artwork.
The Unonian is Mount Union’s yearbook. Students have the opportunity to get involved in the creation of the yearbook, and the areas in which students needed for include layout, design, art, copy writing, advertising, photography and editing.
Association of Women in Communication (AWC) is an international association of individuals working and serving in all communication fields. While other communications associations represent a single profession, this association is a multi-faced association with members in all areas of communications. AWC is also unique by focusing on furthering the professional development of women.
Lambda Pi Eta Honorary is an undergraduate honor society for communication students in four-year colleges and universities.
Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA)
Internships provide valuable and practical experience for students, and they help to fill the gap between the academic and professional worlds. The primary reasons for a student to participate in an internship is to learn more about the career the student wishes to pursue as well as to apply theory learned in the classroom to an actual work situation.
