MY EXCEPTIONAL STORY
Mount is close enough to my hometown that I knew about it growing up. Family, friends and teachers, who are alums, told me more specifics about the University. During my senior year of high school, there was a series of events while applying to schools that ended with me coming here on a whim for the last preview of the summer. It turned out to be a perfect fit. In its own way, Mount Union chose me.
A Unique Education
The people at Mount are top-notch at what they do. Everyone is supportive of you, regardless of whether your accomplishments have anything to do with their own department. In today's global society, there's a high demand for graduates who are ready to work right out of college. Combining a liberal arts education and professional preparation prepares students for the real world competition. Just attending Mount sets you up for success in that regard.
The patio outside the Library in the Academic Mall is my favorite place on campus because it's one of the main hubs on campus. On nice days, it's a great place to work and talk to people you see passing by. The size of the campus is just right to fit all personalities. It's large enough that if you want to be a wall flower, you can be. But, it’s small enough that you can walk across campus and see a good number of people that you know.
My involvement with extracurricular activities has enhanced my education by providing an opportunity to work with students from all different majors and personal backgrounds and to work with others who might not see things the same way as I do. Doing work with the theatre department always provides interesting and memorable experiences both on stage and off. The Concert Choir tour at the end of each year is also a favorite because I get to spend a week during the summer traveling and singing with my friends.
Art and Theatre Major
Art and theatre have always been hobbies of mine. One of the things I've always wanted to be professionally is a teacher, so it seemed natural to choose art/theatre education as my field of study. All of my professors are fantastic and are extremely supportive. They all have impacted me in some way, shape or form.
Working together with all types of people in college is pretty much a precursor to the type of work environment that is common in the ‘real world.’ In a school setting, there are plenty of different views on what is the most important thing to teach. But, instead of arguing and creating discord, it is all of those different views working together that makes the best conclusion become a reality. The arts are a cross-curricular medium and my goal would be to incorporate them with traditional subject matter into future students' education.
