Japanese Consul General to Present Lecture

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Consul General Kazuyuki Katayama, Ph.D. will visit the University of Mount Union’s campus to give a lecture, “Japanese Education and Business Relations in Ohio,” at 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, April 3.

Katayama will discuss a variety of different topics during his lecture including the importance of studying Japanese in Ohio, Ohio-Japan economic relations, as well as future prospects for students of Japanese language and studies.

Katayama began his career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in 1983. Within the Ministry, he has served as Director of the Energy Resources Division of the Economic Affairs Bureau, and as Director of the Cultural Affairs Division of the Public Diplomacy Department. Overseas, Katayama has held posts at the Japanese Embassies in China, the United States, Malaysia and Belgium. He joined the Consulate General of Japan in Detroit on September 30, 2013.

The lecture will take place from 11:15 a.m.–12:15 p.m. in the East Room of the Hoover-Price Campus Center. This event is free and open to the public.
