Jazz Band to Present Concert Thursday

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The University of Mount Union Jazz Band, under the direction of Jeff Neitzke, will present a concert at 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 13 in the B&B Café located in the Hoover-Price Campus Center.

Jazz band participants include Alex Waitinas, vocals; senior political science/international studies major Sara Hall of Canton, Ohio; junior music education major Allison Bates of Minerva, Ohio; freshman Japanese and English major Ashley Gilbert of Dublin, Ohio;
sophomore history major Leon Kimmelfield of Shaker Heights, Ohio;
sophomore music major Jesse Reed of Diamond, Ohio;
freshman music performance major Brittany Daily of Aurora, Colorado; junior environmental science and geology major Brittany Piatt of East Sparta, Ohio;
freshman marketing major Nadya Stratton of Boardman, Ohio; sophomore music education major Jason Lopez of Patterson, New Jersey;
junior music and theatre major Alex Waitinas of Bristol, Ohio; freshman music performance major Sean MacGillivray of Columbiana, Ohio;
freshman music education major Tyler Eakins of Alliance, Ohio;
senior music education major Demi Lohr of Ravenna, Ohio;
senior music major Lizi Glanemann of Fremont, Ohio;
freshman Rachel Powley of Richmond, Ohio; junior psychology major Zack Shankle of Somerdale, Ohio;

Under the direction of Jeff Neitzke, the Jazz Band explores all styles in the jazz idiom. Students perform traditional swing, big band, funk, and rock, as well as more modern jazz sounds and various Latin jazz styles. The ensemble adapts each semester to the types of instruments in the group, so there is always something new to hear. The Jazz Band rehearses twice a week, and is open to all musicians attending Mount Union, whether a music major or not, who are interested in exploring the nuances of the vast landscape that is jazz music.
