Jazz Ensemble Concert to Feature Bob Ferrel

The University of Mount Union Jazz Ensemble, along with guest artist Bob Ferrel, will present a concert Wednesday, April 13 at 7 p.m. in the Campus Grounds of the Hoover-Price Campus Center.
Ferrel, a jazz trombonist, is the musical director of the Richie Cecere’s Big Band and works with his own quartet comprised of Michael Cochrane, Calvin Hill and Yoron Israel. He has performed with countless musicians including Southside Johnny and the Jukes (with Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi), Ellington Band, Slide Hampton, Kenny Garrett, Nancy Wilson and Eddie Henderson, among others. Since 1997, Ferrel has traveled with the Spirit of Life Ensemble and recorded four CDs and a French movie entitled Spirit Energy.
While on campus, Ferrel will also present a 50-minute master jazz class at 3 p.m. in Presser Recital Hall. During the class he will cover jazz improvisation, jazz styles and other subjects such as practice and working in the music industry.
