Join Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center for a Field Trip to Quail Hollow

April 08, 2010

The John T. Huston-Dr. John D. Brumbaugh Nature Center will take a field trip to Quail Hollow for a "woodcock watch" on Saturday, March 23.

We will be joining Laura Dornan at Quail Hollow to see what the woodcocks are doing. Woodcocks are best known for the spectacular flight displays of the males over the breeding grounds. These occur at dusk and again at dawn, with the birds circling up to hundreds of feet high and then descending in a "zig-zag" flight. Once they have landed, their distinctive "peent" calls penetrate the silence of the evening or morning hours. Will we time it right to see a display? Join us to find out!

No registration is required. Meet us at Quail Hollow at 6:30 p.m. or at the Nature Center parking lot at 5:30 p.m. to caravan. Call the Nature Center at (330) 823-7487 for more details. The Nature Center is located 6 miles south of Mount Union College on Daniel Street, just off Route 183.
