April 09, 2010
The John T. Huston - Dr. John D. Brumbaugh Nature Center will hold 'Trail Guide Training' on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 22 and 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Would you like to share you love of nature with children but aren't sure how?' We can help you develop your skills so that you will be comfortable as a trail guide.' On Tuesday we'll discuss some of the elements of outdoor education and education in general.' We'll go out and take a sample walk and will talk about the 'dos and don'ts' and 'ins and outs' of leading groups outdoors.' After lunch, which is provided, you will have a chance to practice your skills by teaching one another.' Remember to dress for the weather.
On Wednesday, after you have completed your initial training, we'll go program by program through the menu we offer to educators.' You will learn what we cover in our programs and will have the opportunity to sign up to observe some of them.' After you have observed two programs and led with a trained guide, you are able to 'graduate' and begin leading your own groups as often as your schedule permits.
Registration is required. The Nature Center is located 6 miles south of Mount Union College on Daniel Street, just off Route 183. For more information, contact the Nature Center at (330) 823-7487.
