Join the Nature Center on October 18 to Learn About Urban Birds and Bird Banding

October 15, 2008

The John T. Huston-Dr. John D. Brumbaugh Nature Center of Mount Union College will be holding a Bird Banding on Saturday, October 18 at 8 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Urban Birds from 10-11 a.m.

Join Al Eibel for a session of bird banding. Eibel will be setting up mist nets to capture songbirds. Then he will band each bird and collect data that include: species, sex, age, mass, wing length, and general health. The birds will then be released.

At the Celebration of Urban Birds, participants will learn about city birds, watch birds for science and learn how to get involved in projects to “green” up the community and increase conservation awareness. Participants will also learn how to contribute to a Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology “Citizen Science” Project.

No registration is required. Remember to dress for the weather. The Nature Center is located six miles south of Mount Union College on Daniel Street, just off of Route 183. For more information, contact the Nature Center at (330) 823-7487.
