Ruth Pogacnik, assistant professor of economics, accounting and business administration, has by far been my favorite professor at Mount Union because she took accounting topics that could easily be boring to people and made them fun and exciting! She is my advisor, so she is doing a wonderful job keeping me on track with all of my classes as well as offering me sound advice. She was also very supportive of my decision to minor in art. She’s a fantastic teacher who wants me to excel in my major and life in general.

MY EXCEPTIONAL STORY

Size of campus
I decided to attend Mount Union because it was close to home and I liked the small class sizes. I also liked that I could still be really involved at the University without living on campus. In addition, the size of campus was also a selling point because I liked that I could recognize and greet almost everyone I passed while walking through campus.

Art or accounting
When I was in high school, I contemplated majoring in art during college, but I decided that it was something I wanted to do for fun during my spare time. I chose to major in accounting because I really enjoy working with numbers and it’s a growing field.

Supportive professor

She’s a fantastic teacher who wants me to excel in my major and life in general.

Modern space
I really enjoy the student lounge in the Engineering and Business Building. It’s nice because it’s modern, comfortable and located in the same building as most of my classes.

Favorite classes
My favorite class is a tie between an accounting course and college writing. I really enjoyed these classes because the professors really made them fun. I could tell that they both loved what they were teaching and wanted me to enjoy the class as well. They both taught course material differently, but I learned to be very creative in my college writing class, and I learned a lot of invaluable information that will help me with a career in accounting.

Hub of campus
If I had to pick one place on campus to take someone who was visiting, I would take him or her to the Hoover-Price Campus Center, which is also known as the HPCC. This is where a lot of activities take place, plus there is food, the University Store and WRMU 91.1 FM (the radio station).

Career goal
Ultimately, I would love to work as either a corporate or public accountant. After graduating from Mount Union, I would like to get my master’s degree in accounting and eventually become a certified public accountant.
