Fifth Annual Kaleidoscope Orientation Program, 2008

For the last five years, the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs hosts its annual orientation program for Mount's incoming first year students of color, otherwise known as Kaleidoscope. Inaugurated in August 2003, this program was created to help our multicultural students make the successful transition from high school to college, by addressing the specific needs and concerns of these students as part of their college experience. The goal of the program is to equip the students with the necessary tools they will need to be successful during their time here at Mount Union, both inside as well as outside the classroom.

Every year the office invites an alum of color to come back to campus to speak to our incoming students at the Kaleidoscope Luncheon. Of the past four of the five years, we have had such esteem alumnae offer their words of wisdom and/ or advice to our new arrivals. To name a few, Lawrence Talley, Sandy Womack, Dr. Angela Neal-Barnett and most recently Moses "Trey" Jones-Lewis have all come back to motivate and encourage our new "Purple Raider." On Friday August 24, 2007 Mr. Jones-Lewis spoke to a record number of guests including students, their families, faculty and staff on his love of higher education and his rich experience at his alma mater, Mount Union.
