Stay focused, make goals and work toward achieving them. Also, become friends with others with the same major because it is really helpful to have friends that you can go to with questions. It makes it a lot easier when you can all work together to get things done. Just have the heart for what you want to do and you will succeed.

Why did you choose to pursue your degree?
I chose to pursue a degree as an Early Childhood Education and Intervention Specialist major because I love working with children and feeling as if I have made a difference in someone else’s life.

What types of jobs are available for students who share your major?

Intervention Specialists can teach children with mild/moderate to intensive needs. They can work in Early Childhood, Middle Childhood, and Adolescent-Young Adult settings.

How will you use your degree upon graduation?
I plan on finding a teaching job and continuing my education by earning my master’s degree. I would like to ultimately work in the Jackson Local School District, my high school alma mater.

What activities are you involved in?
I spend most of my time on the weekends and in the summer working in the daycare at Glenmoor Country Club in Canton. On campus, I am a member of Alpha Phi Omega and currently hold the position of Historian. I am also in Alpha Lambda Delta, Alpha Xi Delta, Marching Band, Wind Ensemble and Flute Choir.

What elements should a person possess in order to succeed in your major?

I believe someone who is interested in becoming an Intervention Specialist needs to be passionate and have a strong desire about the field they are working in. It is also important to have a lot of patience with students and be able to provide that one-on-one attention that many of the students need.
