Japanese Club President
The University of Mount Union’s Japanese Club was formed during the 2013 - 2014 school year. There was a need on campus for a Japanese language organization that resembled the respective clubs of other foreign language programs on campus such as German, French and Chinese. With the help of a few dedicated and determined Japanese majors and minors and international students, the UMU Japanese Club became a reality. Soon after it’s creation, the club attracted more than 40 members to it’s first event and has gained popularity over the past semester. As Japanese Club president for it’s second year, I am excited to work with my officers to bring more activities and learning opportunities to campus!
Japanese Club currently has about 50 members and has many activities planned for this year. We meet twice a month on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. in T&H to discuss campus life and upcoming events. Our fall semester usually includes our annual Welcome Back Party, Otsukimi (moon-viewing party), Japanese movie nights, a Halloween Party and Japanese food making events – just to name a few! There are always a variety of learning activities and a chance to communicate with Japanese international students, which makes this club so interesting and extremely fun to be a part of. The great thing about this community is that you don’t have to speak the language or be a Japanese major. Just having an interest in some aspect of the culture is all you need! So if you’ve always wanted to know more about Japanese culture, or would like to make a new friend from another country, stop by one of our meetings and introduce yourself!
