Laryssa Byndas Receives Heaton W. Harris Prize

ALLIANCE, Ohio – University of Mount Union graduate Laryssa Byndas of Brooklyn, OH was presented with The Heaton W. Harris and Corinne Harris Smith Senior Prize at the University’s 168th Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 10, 2014.
The prize is presented to the member of the graduating class who ranks highest in scholarship, the entire academic curriculum being considered. Byndas majored in mathematics and minored in adolescent to young adult education. In addition to receiving the Heaton W. Harris and Corinne Harris Smith Senior Prize, she received the Ullman Mathematics Prize at the annual Senior Recognition and Honors Convocation.
While on campus, Byndas was a member of the Mount Union Color Guard, Kappa Delta Pi, Pi Mu Epsilon, Alpha Lambda Delta, Scholastic Achievement Coalition, Concert Band and Wind Ensemble, Woodwind Quartet, Alliance Symphony Orchestra and Orthodox Christian Fellowship. She participated in the Honors Program, served as the spiritual life leader and mathematics tutor, presented at the 2013 SCHOLAR Day and was a recipient of the Wilbur and Burdella Stuckey Carl Mathematics Prize and the Teeple-Krohn Music Prize.
