LESRA MARTIN TO PRESENT DEWALD LECTURE

ALLIANCE, Ohio - Mount Union College will present Crown Attorney Lesra Martin on Wednesday, September 12, 2001, in Kresge Dining Commons at 6 PM for this year's Dewald Honors Dinner and Lecture.
Originally from New York City, Martin went to live with a family in Toronto, Canada at the age of 15. Around this time, Martin, along with dedicated others, successfully rallied for the release of wrongfully imprisoned boxer Rubin "Hurricane" Carter. He was motivated to take action after reading Carter's book The 16th Round: From Contender to Prisoner #4547.
After his crusade to free Carter, Martin went on to graduate from high school as an Ontario Scholar, receive a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Toronto and a law degree from Dallhousie University. Today he is a Crown Attorney in British Columbia acting as a prosecutor.
Martin's story is featured in the movie, The Hurricane and the book Lazarus and Hurricane.
