LINC College-Community Luncheon Featuring Dr. Jeffrey Draves to be Held February 19
February 15, 2008
Dr. Jeffrey Draves, professor of chemistry at Mount Union College, will be the featured speaker to kick-off the spring sessions of LINC, the college-community luncheon series featuring Mount Union professors and community members discussing current topics, on Tuesday, February 19 at noon in the East Room of the Hoover-Price Campus Center.
Draves will discuss how “Breathing May Be Hazardous to Your Health.” Much of his research has centered in the areas of environmental, physical and analytical chemistry and he has developed methods for measuring atmospheric radicals.
A member of the Mount Union College faculty since 2006, Draves earned his bachelor’s degree from Monmouth College and his doctoral degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He is a member of the American Chemical Society.
LINC (lunch, information, networking and conversation) was conceived to take advantage of the local expertise that exists in Alliance, in light of the College’s exceptional academic reputation.
“We had a great response to LINC during the first semester with the three presentations by our faculty members,” Harry Paidas, vice president for public affairs and marketing, said. “Second semester also promises to be informative and entertaining as well with three great faculty members sharing information on topical issues. In addition to Dr. Draves on February 19, we will have Dr. Rebecca Stevens speaking on Crime 101 on March 18 and Dr. William Cunion speaking on the costs of the 2008 presidential election on April 15.”
The sessions are open to the public and will run from noon until 1 p.m. during the third Tuesday of the months of February, March and April. Sessions will be chaired by Scott Ingledue, chairman of the Board of Directors of Alliance Community Hospital, with comments and updates from Dr. Richard F. Giese, president of the College and Paidas.
