Why Mount Union?
I chose Mount Union because it was the perfect fit for me. I always knew that I wanted to attend a small school because I work better in smaller classroom sizes. Family is such an important part of my life that I enjoy being close to home. I loved the fact that the nursing program was going to be brand new and that I would be part of the first class to go through it.
There’s So Much to Love
I love the education that I’ve been receiving at Mount Union. All of the professors care about their students and work hard to build a relationship. Also, the campus is beautiful. The University really works hard to make this campus look great. There are a lot of things I love about Mount Union but something that I love most is the friendships that I have been building.
Favorite Place on Campus
My favorite place at Mount Union is the nursing building, Gallaher Hall. That is where I spend most of my days and a place I really enjoy being. The building its self is such a cool environment. This building is where I come and know that I am making the right decision about my career.
Mount Union is a family. The close-knit community is something that really sets it apart from other colleges. The professors really take time to build relationships with their students to ensure their success.
Preparation for the Future
Mount Union is preparing me for success by giving me the opportunity to have a lot of hands-on experience with my future profession. Also, Mount Union continues to make me grow as an individual. I have learned how to be independent and more responsible. These are all attributes that will help me to succeed after graduation.
When I would think about all the majors I could pursue, none of them made sense like nursing did. Also, science, medicine and the human body have always been my best subjects. There is nothing that interests me more than the medical field. My mom is a nurse and I wanted to follow in her footsteps. As a nurse, the ability to care for and help people is so rewarding. There is nothing that makes me happier than to be able to make someone’s day a little better. Also, I love that nursing is a career where you never stop learning.
This year, we started our first clinical experience. This has been my favorite because I get to take everything that I have been learning in the classroom and lab and putting it to use. It’s such a different experience being out in the real world and interacting with patients. It has been the biggest learning tool for me yet because it allows me to see what it is really like to be a nurse.
My favorite class so far would be pharmacology. It was really interesting to learn all about medications and the administration of medication. In this class we got to learn how to pass medications to patients, perform injections and how to set up an IV pump. This was all very exciting because these tasks will be part of our every day career.
Liberal Arts Education
Having a liberal arts foundation really helps individuals grow. Not only are you taking classes for your major but you are also getting a diverse education. This allows students to become well-rounded and to learn more about themselves.
My ultimate career goal is to become a pediatric nurse at St. Jude’s. St. Jude’s is an amazing institution. It has completely changed how the world treats children and that is something I want to be a part of. I want the opportunity to give kids faith and comfort when they’re dealt these difficult hands. To work at St. Jude’s and help make a difference in medicine and to care for children is a dream.
Mount Union is preparing me for success by giving me the opportunity to have a lot of hands-on experience with my future profession.
