Marge Piercy Presents Women’s History Keynote

ALLIANCE, Ohio — Marge Piercy presented the Women’s History Month keynote at the University of Mount Union on Wednesday.

Piercy discussed her characters and setting from her novel, Sex Wars, a book written about the struggle of women in the nineteenth century. Many of the characters she introduced from the novel, such as Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Victoria Woodhull, are based on real people who were influential activists for furthering the rights of women.

She displayed the time period through real photographs, cartoons and documents of post-Civil War, New York City.

Piercy is also the author of the novels:  Body of Glass, City of Darkness, Summer People and The Longings of Women. She has also written poems, essays and a play.
