Mark McConnell to Discuss Marketing at LINC
January 14, 2013
ALLIANCE, Ohio —Mark McConnell, assistant professor of marketing at the University of Mount Union, will present the first LINC luncheon of the spring semester at noon on Tuesday, January 22 in the East Room of the Hoover-Price Campus Center.
McConnell will present “Marketing A Movement (Inspiring Social Responsibility).”
The presentation will describe how a loose-knit collection of caring students at the University of Mount Union came together to spearhead a series of innovative projects to benefit those less fortunate than themselves.
This group, now known as Raider Relief, is an ever-changing band of young people who describe themselves as “radical philanthropists.” Despite the absence of a constitution, elected officers or consistent funding source; the group has, since 2009, run at least one successful project (for a variety of causes, from local to international) in each of the past seven semesters. Among the projects are Hugs for Haiti, March Makeover, Bottle School Blitz and LemonPalooza.
McConnell, a lifelong marketing professional with two decades of classroom experience, earned a bachelor of science degree from Youngstown State University and a master of business administration degree from Tulane University. He will describe how he came to serve as Raider Relief’s unofficial faculty advisor, focusing on how marketing concepts and practices can be used to affect social change and inspire students to embrace responsible citizenship.
The community luncheon series known as LINC (lunch, information, networking and conversation) was conceived to take advantage of the local expertise from Mount Union’s faculty and staff that exists in Alliance, in light of the University’s exceptional academic reputation. This is an opportunity to gain practical knowledge on current topics from local experts and interact with members of the University and greater Alliance community.
Attendees are encouraged to bring guests but are asked to RSVP as space is limited. Cost for each luncheon is $10.
