Martin Horning Receives Stark MRDD Volunteer of the Year Award

Martin Horning, professor of economics at Mount Union College, was recently honored as the Stark County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities Volunteer of the Year.
Martin Horning entertains students at Southgate School. Horning has been a dedicated volunteer at Southgate School in Canton Township for several years, where he holds a music class for the students each week. Horning was honored at "Myah's Magical Evening," which was held July 19 by Citizens Who Care for MRDD.
Horning volunteers each week to spend time with the elementary students at Southgate School, where he does a group sing-along with the students and performs favorite songs.
Southgate School is chartered by the Ohio Department of Education to provide educational and vocational training for elementary through high school students. Southgate School is one of seven facilities operated by the Stark MRDD, and there are currently more than 170 students from throughout Stark County enrolled there.
