Mission: The EXPLORaider is designed to provide a broad cultural context to the University of Mount Union’s curriculum. Students along with faculty and staff from the University travel to major metropolitan areas to absorb the unique diversity which these cities offer. Once on the EXPLORaider, educational insight is provided for each destination and all tour logistics are takes care of. EXPLORaider educational itineraries provide participants a unique opportunity to personally experience the multiculturalism of this country. This Spring Break, the EXPLORaider will travel to the “Cradle of Liberty” Boston, Massachusetts. Boston is the state capital and the largest city of the commonwealth of Massachusetts. It is also one of the oldest cities in the United States having been founded in 1630 by Puritan colonists from England. With an estimated population of 625,000 people according to the 2011 U.S. census, Boston is the 21st largest city in the U.S. As a result, Boston, which is considered the anchor of Greater Boston, is home to more than 4.5 million people and the tenth largest metropolitan area in the country. People of Irish descent form the largest single ethnic group in Boston, making up 16% of the city’s population, followed by Italians and people of West Indian ancestry. Boston also has several famous cultural treasures such as its financial services industry, hard core punk music, culinary seafood and sports clubs. Boston has teams in the four major North American sports leagues and has won 33 championships in these leagues. The EXPLORaider is pleased to visit Boston and explore the rich progressive culture, architectural treasures and distinct European feel of one of the top 30 cities in the world.
