I think Mount Union is different because of the relationship between the students and the faculty. I feel very comfortable asking any professor for help and it is especially nice when a professor, outside of class, calls me by my name.
Mathematics Learning Objectives
At Mount Union, students majoring in mathematics develop the ability to think critically and use mathematical reasoning in everyday life. Students will be introduced to a number of interesting and useful ideas in preparation for a number of career opportunities in business, government and industry.
Teaching is also an option mathematics graduates have for a career field. Students spend time working in local secondary and middle school mathematics classes.
Math majors have the option to concentrate in statistics taking classes such as elementary statistics, mathematical statistics I and II, and advanced quantitative tools for business and economics. This concentration helps students prepare for careers in actuarial work and as executives in major business firms. Students are able to take a wide variety of classes. Those students who would like to continue their education in graduate school, have opportunities to take many electives to prepare them.
Students can join organizations such as Pi Mu Epsilon honorary and the Mathematics Club.
Experiential learning options that will allow students to put classroom knowledge into practice include cooperative education programs, field trips, mathematical and statistics conferences, specialized courses, seminars, guest lecturers, and classroom speakers.
