I chose to come to the University of Mount Union to play volleyball and to pursue engineering. There are countless opportunities available on campus both in my field of study and as an athlete. The mission of the University of Mount Union is to prepare students for fulfilling life, meaningful work, and responsible citizenship.
Mission of the Mechanical Engineering Degree Program:
The mission of the Mechanical Engineering degree program at the University of Mount Union is to provide a rigorous hands-on engineering education integrated with liberal arts in a student-centered environment. Our graduates will be equipped for life-long learning necessary for professional practice and advanced studies. We will prepare our students to be the technical, business, and global leaders of tomorrow.
Program Educational Objectives for the Mechanical Engineering Degree Program:
- Graduates will achieve fulfilling professional lives by integrating their Mechanical Engineering expertise with business and communication skills
- Graduates will achieve meaningful work by meeting the expectations of employers of Mechanical Engineers
- Graduates who are interested and qualified will achieve meaningful work by pursuing advanced study or alternate career paths
- Graduates will achieve responsible citizenship by undertaking dynamic roles in their community, locally, nationally, and/or internationally
At the time of graduation, Mechanical Engineering students have achieved the following Student Outcomes:
(a) an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering
(b) an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data
(c) an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability
(d) an ability to function on multidisciplinary teams
(e) an ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems

(g) an ability to communicate effectively
