My favorite teacher is a person who hasn’t taught me in a traditional classroom. Morgan Bagley, athletic trainer and director of athletic training education at Mount Union, is not only my advisor and athletic trainer for basketball, but also has become one of the most important people in my life. She is always there for me no matter what and I would be lost without her.

MY EXCEPTIONAL STORY

The place for me
I decided to attend Mount Union because it felt like home to me and I felt like I belonged here. After visiting Mount Union, I started to compare the institution to every other school I visited and that is when I knew that Mount was the place for me.

Passion for athletics
I chose to major in athletic training because I really like athletics and when I am done playing at the collegiate level, I still want to be involved in sports. Also, I really like helping people and I’m good at thinking on my feet, so this major gives me the opportunity to do both. I think it is safe to say I picked the right major.

Favorite spot on campus
My favorite spot on campus is the Gorman Athletic Training Facility, which is located in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex. Even when I don’t have to be there, I go just to hang out. It’s my favorite place because I can learn and gain experience in my field, but I also can go there if I just need to talk to someone or need to sit and think for a while. I just like being there.

Big family
Mount Union is such a close knit campus community, and I think that not having such a large enrollment makes it easy for people to get to know one another and makes everyone feel comfortable. I really like the fact that I know a lot of people on a personal level. I’m not a number at the University. In fact, I know my professors and they know me. I’m a part of something at Mount Union … I’m a part of a big family.

Field experience
I have liked many of my classes, but I would have to say that my absolute favorite class thus far at Mount Union has been my field experience course. I really enjoyed going to GlenOak High School to work with its athletic training department. I got a lot of hands-on experience that was tremendously beneficial, and I got to see what it would be like for me to work in this type of environment after I graduate. In addition, I got to serve as an athletic training student during a football camp in August 2011. It was a great learning experience for me and I can’t wait to work with more athletic teams!

Advisor, mentor and friend
My favorite teacher is a person who hasn’t taught me in a traditional classroom. Morgan Bagley, athletic trainer and director of athletic training education at Mount Union, is not only my advisor and athletic trainer for basketball, but also has become one of the most important people in my life. She is always there for me no matter what and I would be lost without her.

Dream job
My ultimate career goal is to open my own clinic and training center for athletes. I would like to be able to help athletes like me get ready for their seasons and help them prevent injuries.
