Men's Basketball Has Home Postseason Game

No. 4 seed Mount Union (11-14, 9-9 OAC) hosts No. 8 seed Otterbein (8-18, 4-13 OAC) in the quarterfinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament Tuesday at 8 pm in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

The winner of Tuesday's game will advances to the semifinals to face the No. 1 seed Capital Thursday at 7:30 p.m in Columbus.

The game will be broadcast LIVE on the radio on WRMU 91.1 FM and be simulcast online with LIVE STATS feed of the game.

Mount Union enters the game having dropped its last two games against Marietta (93-81) and Wilmington (69-68).  

The Purple Raiders rank first in the conference in rebounding (37.0 rpg), second in the conference in scoring (76.5 ppg) and third in free-throw percentage (74.3%).

Sophomore Nate Jacubec (Struthers/Struthers) leads the Raiders in scoring (15.3 ppg), steals (1.3 spg) and ranks first in the conference in three-pointers made (69).

Otterbein enters Tuesday's game having upset the No. 5 seed John Carroll Monday night 82-76 in University Heights. Prior to the win against John Carroll, the Cardinals had lost their last seven games with the last win coming on Jan 23rd against Marietta (72-62).

Otterbein ranks third in the conference in assists (13.6 apg) and fourth in the conference in rebounding (36.0 rpg). Max Van Meter leads the Cardinals in scoring (12.6 ppg) and Zach Bakenhaster leads the team in rebounding (6.7 rpg), which also ranks fourth in the conference.

OAC TOURNAMENT HISTORY

Mount Union is making its 53rd tournament appearance, which ties Capital for the most in conference history. The Raiders have a 23-51 record and won its only title in 1997. Last season, the Raiders lost 56-52 at Ohio Northern in the first round of the conference tournament. The last time the Raiders won a game in the OAC tournament was 2005 which was a 95-75 victory over the No. 2 seed Capital.

Otterbein is making its 49th tournament appearance and has eight conference titles (1978, 1986, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 2002). The Cardinals have compiled a 64-40 record in the OAC tournament. Last season, the Cardinals earned the No. 8 seed but fell at the No. 5 seed Wilmington 76-65 in the first round of the OAC tournament.

Mount Union and Otterbein have played four times in the OAC tournament with each team having a 2-2 record.

This will be the 105th meeting between the two schools with Otterbein holding a 61-43 advantage.  Mount Union won both of the matchups against Otterbein this season (66-60 at Otterbein and 93-65 in Alliance.  Prior to this season, the last time the Raiders swept a season series with the Cardinals was the 2004-2005 season where the Raiders won 74-64 at home on Dec 18, 2004 and at Otterbein Feb. 19, 2005, 64-59.

Coaches

Mike Fuline (Kent State '98) is in his second season as head coach at Mount Union and has compiled a 21-29 overall record as head coach of the Purple Raiders.  Prior to becoming head coach of the Raiders, Fuline had a successful coaching career at the high school level that included winning the 2010 OHSAA Division I State Championship at Massillon Jackson. Prior to coach at Massillon, he was the head coach at Rootstown high school (2003-2005). At Rootstown, his 2003-04 team posted a 16-6 record and won a sectional championship while his 2004-05 team went 20-4, shared the league title and won a district championship. Fuline was named 2004 Ohio's Division III Co-Coach of the Year.

Todd Adrian (Kansas '95) is in his first season as head coach at Otterbein and has compiled a 8-18 record as head coach of the Cardinals. Prior to becoming head coach of the Cardinals, Adrian served as an associate head coach at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, Platteville, Wis., from 2003 to 2006 and Lakeland College, Sheboygan, Wis., from 1999 to 2003.
