Message from the Chair
The Mechanical Engineering Program at the University of Mount Union is dynamic and practical. Our program distinguishes itself by focusing on what we call the four pillars of exceptional engineering education.
The small classes at Mount Union allow for individual attention and a strong bond between the faculty and their students. Our engineering faculty at Mount Union is an outstanding group with expertise in the many fields that make up mechanical engineering such as:
- Sustainable energy
- Mechanical systems
- Dynamical systems
- Design against failure
- Heating and ventilation
- Power plant design
- Microelectromechanical systems (MEMS)
- Computer aided design (CAD)
- Computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
- Composite materials
Mount Union’s Mechanical Engineering Program is housed in a newly-renovated building with state-of-the-art labs containing modern tools and equipment. Our program was designed with emphasis on graduating engineers who have extensive hands-on experience. Last year, 86% of our mechanical engineering students participated in internships. Mechanical engineering students also complete a yearlong capstone senior design project that is driven by real-world and practical projects from industry.
The Mechanical Engineering Program at Mount Union has already started the accreditation process with the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. Our preliminary evaluation by ABET has already been completed, and we are approved for the on-site accreditation visit in Fall 2014. The engineering accreditation process is long and will take until Summer 2015 to conclude.
