Michael Datcher To Give Black History Month Keynote Address

Michael Datcher, author, poet, playwright and journalist, will give the keynote address for the Black History Month events in the Mount Union Theater on Thursday, February 5, at 10:30 a.m.

Datcher is the author of the critically-acclaimed New York Times Bestseller, "Raising Fences: A Black Man's Love Story." The film rights have been optioned by actor Will Smith's Overbook Productions. Datcher is currently at work on the screenplay adaptation.

As a journalist, he has written for The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Vibe, Ladies Home Journal, The Source, among others. He is a frequent news commentator on BBC Radio and has appeared on news shows Nightline and Dateline as an analyst.

Datcher teaches English Literature at West Los Angles College and the University of California Los Angeles Extension. He is the director of literary programs at the World Stage Writer's Workshop in Leimert Park.
