February 20, 2007

Mount Union College students recently participated in the American Mock Trial Association Regional Tournament at Notre Dame.

Nine students and Angela Smith-Alder, assistant professor of sociology and director of the pre-law program, formed the Mount Union Team. Mount Union was pitted against 32 other teams in the weekend long competition.

'Our team did really well because they had really tough competition'competition was at a high level this year,' said Smith-Alder.

This year's case concerned the robbery of a corner store and the teenagers that allegedly committed the robbery. Shortly after the incident the policeman committed suicide. The teenager's family filed a suit against the police department to protect their son's constitutional right to due process of law.
