Mount Union's Jessica Eggan Interns in Washington D.C.
April 27, 2010
Jessica Eggan, a media studies major from Urichsville, spent the summer as an intern with the National Telecommunications Cooperative Association.
Eggan, who discovered the internship through a friend who participated in the program last year, attended a conference and loved all that the program offered.
The program Eggan is in D.C. with is The Fund for American Studies (TFAS). TFAS has 'institutes' within the program on business, economics, philanthropy and journalism. Eggan is part of the Institute on Political Journalism (IPJ), and is one of 380 students participating in TFAS, and one of about 85 in IPJ.
Eggan is the Communications Intern for the National Telecommunications Cooperative Association, which is in Arlington, Virginia. 'I write for their bi-monthly magazine as well as for two of the newsletters,' Eggan said.
Through this internship, Eggan has gained knowledge and skills that will be beneficial to her in the future. 'This internship has made me realize what I want to do in life and what I am passionate about,' said Eggan. 'I have gotten to experience first-hand multiple facets of the communication field and I have been able to narrow down my areas of pursuit for the future. Also, I have many pieces to enhance my portfolio.'
Eggan credits her internship with improving her writing and communication skills and enhancing her knowledge of lay-out and design through hands-on practical experience.
