Mount Union Alliance Chorale Presents “Autumn Expressions”

November 17, 2014

ALLIANCE – The University of Mount Union will present the Mount Union Alliance Chorale as it presents its “Autumn Expressions” concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 23 at Christ United Methodist Church, 470 E. Broadway in Alliance.

The Mount Union Alliance Chorale is directed by Jane Page with collaborative artist Nancy Howenstine.

Music by William Billings, America’s first native born composer, will begin the program, followed by three of Aaron Copland’s Old American songs. “The Road Not Taken” by 20th century composer Randall Thompson is included as well as a traditional spiritual by 21st century arranger Keith Hampton. Christmas music is featured in the second half of the concert beginning with a Renaissance motet written specifically for Christmas Day by Renaissance composer Peter Philips. Music by Randall Thompson will again be offered, this time as two Christmas selections. Carols arranged by Robert Shaw and Alice Parker, as well as John Rutter, will round out the program.

The women of Christ Methodist Church will host a reception following the concert.

Tickets for the concert are $5 and are available for purchase from a Chorale member and at the entry to the concert. This event is free to Mount Union students with their ID. The church provides ample parking and is handicap accessible.

The Mount Union Alliance Chorale includes a combination of University of Mount Union students, faculty and community members. They have been performing together since 1982 and present two concerts each year.

The Chorale rehearses every Tuesday evening at the University during the University’s school year. Membership does not require an audition but a love for singing quality choral music with others. If interested in becoming a part of the chorale, contact the director, Jane Page, at or call 330-823-2180.
