Mount Union Alliance Chorale to Begin Rehearsals
September 01, 2013
ALLIANCE, Ohio — The Mount Union Alliance Chorale has welcomed Jane Page, a 1975 Mount Union graduate, as its new director.
Page, of Girard, OH, retired recently from a 35-year teaching career at Lakeview High School in Cortland, where she taught high school choir. Page has also directed numerous church choirs, the first being First Christian Church in Alliance while she was a student at Mount Union. Because of her Mount Union roots and love of music, Page was thrilled to hear of the opportunity to direct the Mount Union Alliance Chorale. She currently directs a church choir in the Youngstown area but wanted to expand her repertoire.
“I retired from teaching but I didn’t want to stop conducting and I wanted to be able to direct a choir that could do a broader range of literature,” she said. “I always loved being at Mount Union and I hated to graduate.”
The Chorale, which includes Mount Union faculty, staff and students and is open to community members, performs twice a year – once in November and once in April. This year’s fall concert is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 24 and will include patriotic works, songs about Thanksgiving and Christmas music.
“We want to reach out into the community and invite people who like to sing and are looking for a good quality musical experience to join,” Page said. “People should come with a love of singing and a commitment to excellence.”
Page is a member of the American Choral Director's Association and a member of and adjudicator for the Ohio Music Education Association. In 2005, she received the Ohio Music Educator of the Year Award from the OMEA. She is currently the Director of Music at Church Hill United Methodist Church in Youngstown (Liberty Township) and she sings with the Wade Raridon Singers, a choir that specializes in singing chorale masterworks.
In her free time, Page enjoys spending time with her husband Bob, her two cats and a dog. She also enjoys crafting, needlework, folk art painting and restoring her 1850s log cabin.
The Chorale will hold its first rehearsal on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Registration will begin at 6:30 p.m. and rehearsals will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. every Tuesday in Cope Music Hall. No auditions will be held.
