Mount Union Alliance Chorale to Perform

November 15, 2013

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Mount Union Alliance Chorale’s upcoming concert, “Bountiful Blessings,” will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 24 at Christ United Methodist Church, located at 470 E. Broadway in Alliance.

The Chorale was founded in 1982 by Dr. Gary Funk, former Mount Union choral director. The group is comprised of 60 singers, including Mount Union students, staff and faculty as well as members of the greater Alliance area community.

This concert will mark the first appearance of the new Chorale conductor, Jane Page ‘75. A graduate of Mount Union, she began her directing career at the First Christian Church in Alliance during her senior year as a music major. Upon graduation, she began a 35-year career teaching choral music at Lakeview High School near Warren, OH. She was honored as Outstanding Music Educator of the year in 2005 by the Ohio Music Education Association.

The concert will feature patriotic music in observance of Veteran’s Day, songs for the season of Thanksgiving and music to begin the Christmas season. Some of the composers featured are John Rutter, Felix Mendelssohn and Tomas Victoria. Nancy Howenstine, University of Mount Union staff accompanist, is the collaborative artist supporting the Chorale.

In addition, the Mount Union Men's Choir, under the direction of senior music education major Sean Eppler of Mentor, OH, will present selections including “The Boar's Head Carol,” “What Shall I Do With A Drunken Sailor” and “Coventry Lullaby.”

Admission to the concert is $5 and Mount Union students are free with ID. A reception will be hosted by the women of the church following the concert.

The Mount Union Alliance Chorale is always seeking new members who are interested in performing quality music. A new semester of rehearsals will begin in January and new members are welcome to join at that time. For more information contact the conductor at
