LONDON -- University of Mount Union alum Justin Rodhe '07 throws the shot put for Team Canada today at the Olympics in London.

Rodhe, a native of Bainbridge, Ohio, Kenston High School and 2007 Mount Union graduate. He was a five-time All-American and the 2007 NCAA Division III shot put champion.

In 2008, he moved to Canada to train and later began the process of becoming a Canadian citizen and this spring qualified for the Olympics.

"Mount Union showed me how to compete at a high level and I had a great experience there," commented Rodhe in an interview before he left for Europe for final preparations and training for the Olympics.

"I was a discus thrower in high school and Coach Homon (long-time former Mount Union track and field coach John Homon) almost had me quit the shot put early ... almost," Rodhe said jokingly. "Coach Homon was great.  He stuck with me and showed me how to work hard and move forward."

"My time at Mount Union shaped who I am as an athlete and a person."
