Mount Union and Malone Choirs to Perform
March 20, 2011
The University of Mount Union Women’s Chorus and Malone University Women’s Concert Choir will present A Concert of Songs of Edification on Sunday, March 20 at 3 p.m. at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in Canton, Ohio. The concert is free and open to the public.
The concert will feature a wide selection of hymns by Cesar Franck, Antonio Vivaldi, John Rutter and Martin Shaw as well as a variety of American and South African folk songs.
The idea to present a combined women’s choir concert came about when Kathy Gold, lecturer of music, became the interim Women’s Chorus director at the University of Mount Union in the fall of 2010. She and Rachel Núñez, director of the Malone University Women’s Concert Choir, have been friends for a long time.
“I am very excited about our upcoming concert with Rachel’s very talented group of women,” said Gold. “This is an opportunity to hear and sing with another choir of like voices.”
Following the concert, a reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. It is sponsored by Malone University’s chapter of Ohio Collegiate Music Education Association (OCMEA) and the University of Mount Union’s chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon.
Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church is located at 425 Cleveland Ave., SW, Canton, Ohio 44702. For more information, call Mount Union’s Department of Music at (330) 823-2180.
