Mount Union Band to Present Christmas Concert

ALLIANCE – Under the direction of Dr. Otis French, director of bands, the University of Mount Union band will present its annual Christmas concert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2 at the West Branch High School Auditorium.
West Branch High School is located at 14277 S. Main St. in Beloit, Ohio.
The band will begin the concert with a performance of “Flourish for Wind Band” by Ralph Vaughn Williams and will continue with works by composers including Robert Longfield, Carl Orff, Robert W. Smith, David Gillingham, Leroy Anderson and an arrangement of “Joy to the World” by Steve Reisteter.
Featured off-stage soloists in Smith’s “All is Calm” will be junior early childhood education major Mary Ann Snyder of Orrville, Ohio; freshman Shannon Hammer of Uniontown, Ohio; junior history major Leon Kimmelfield of Shaker Heights, Ohio; sophomore music and theatre major David Lenahan of Rocky River, Ohio; sophomore biology major Megan Kurz of Rocky River, Ohio and freshman music education major Christopher Garton of North Canton, Ohio.
Featured on-stage soloists in Smith’s “All is Calm” will be junior music education major Alison Bates of Minerva, Ohio; sophomore psychology major Greg Best of Twinsburg, Ohio; junior biology major Elizabeth Wamsley of Akron, Ohio; freshman Brittany Daily of Canton, Ohio; junior biology and French major Brynne Cross of Dellroy, Ohio; junior music education major Nick Embrogno of Malvern, Ohio; sophomore biology major Marie Huthmacher of Louisville, Ohio; junior criminal justice major Zack Irwin of Pulask, Pennsylvania; senior music performance major Brianna Searing of Fort Wayne, Indiana; senior international studies and political science major Sarah Hall of Canton, Ohio and sophomore music education major Jason Lopez of Little Falls, New Jersey.
Professor Kevin P. Kern, assistant professor of theatre, will be a special guest narrator for “All is Calm” while sophomore music and religious studies major Mikayla Kovacik of Cadiz, Ohio plays piano.
French holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in conducting from the University of Maryland, a Master of Music degree in conducting from Indiana University, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and Business Administration from Saint Leo College and an Army Bandmaster Major with a Course Certification as an Army Band Officer from the Navy School of Music.
