Mount Union Cheerleaders Give Back to Community

November 04, 2008

fooddriveThe Mount Union College Varsity Cheerleaders recently had the opportunity to volunteer in the Alliance community for the Alliance Kiwanis Club, along with members of Alpha Tau Omega and Alpha Delta Pi.

Some assisted on the assembly line of food distribution, while others had the opportunity to deliver the food to the cars of the recipients.  80 pounds of food each was served to more than 400 people in the community.

“It felt really good to be able to help so many people in the community, said cheerleader Brooke Thomas, a sophomore communication major of New Castle, Pennsylvania. “It was a great opportunity to show Alliance that the Raider Cheerleaders are willing to get involved and volunteer for such a worthy cause.”

The October 25 Mount Union Football game at Wilmington also gave the cheerleaders an opportunity to volunteer.  In a joint effort with the Wilmington Cheerleading Squad, over $500 was raised to benefit Muscular Dystrophy.  Donations came from both the Mount Union and Wilmington fans.

“I’m really enjoying being able to get involved this year around Alliance” said Thomas. “It makes being on the squad all the more worthwhile.”
